Research

Our strong research environment focuses on key issues at home and abroad, from the social and economic impact of developments in the UK, to studies of Brazilian rainforests, Caribbean towns and livelihoods in Africa.  We work with business and industry, charities and non-governmental organisations, and link with other departments whose expertise provide a diverse and stimulating research environment.

Our staff belong to either of the following research groups:

• Earth System Science Research Group
• Human Environments Research Group

Also based in the department are the following research centres:

• Aquatic Environments Research Centre
• Soil Research Centre

Public lectures and seminars

Each year we host a public lecture by a guest speaker, funded by a bequest made by Norma Wilkinson, a University of Reading alumna. 

Speakers (visiting and in house) present their latest research at seminars held in the department in the Spring and Autumn terms. Details are given on our events page.
